Cyberbullying
What are some of the negative effects that cyberbullying can have on a person?
Negative effects that cyberbullying can have on people includes feeling depressed, sad, angry, and frustrated. Victims also have low self esteem, and many different types of problems. Some victims also have reported feeling suicidal thoughts.
Where does cyberbullying commonly occur?
Cyberbullying happens in many different types of scenarios but mostly sites which teenagers use. At first many kids were being bullied in chat rooms but in recent years have been drawn to social sites such as Facebook or Myspace and video sharing sites such as Youtube. Teens also have reported being bullied over texts or on gaming sites such as virtual worlds.
How much cyberbullying is out there?
Statistics show that youth cyberbullying varies widely ranging from 10-40% or even more depending on the age of the victim. About 20% of 4,400 11-18 year olds randomly selected have reported being a victim at one time or another.
How is cyberbullying different from traditional bullying?
Cyberbullying can often be harsher, farther reaching, and it occurs when the victim is in his or her own home. And in most cases the hurtful actions are viral.
Why is cyberbullying coming a major issue?
Cyberbullying is becoming a bigger issue due to the increase of teens owning cell phones and computers. Two-thirds of all teens communicate daily with their friends using an electronic device. Since the online community has been growing so rapidly, cyberbullying has been growing right along side it.
What are the biggest challenges in the fight to stop cyberbullying?
First of all, most bullies don’t realize the affect that they have on the teens that they are “picking on”. Since they don’t know the affects, they will just keep doing it.
Are there any warning signs that might indicate when cyberbullying is occurring?
If a teen unexpectedly stops using they’re phone or computer, this is usually a good sign that something is going on. Or when they are using their computer or phone they look nervous or jumpy.
What can parents do?
Parents can make sure the teen feels safe if they know what is going on. Parents can also help by knowing what is going on in the teen’s life, don’t be oblivious. Parents can also help the teens by educating them in what cyberbullying is exactly.
What should schools do to prevent cyberbullying?
The best thing that schools can do to help prevent cyberbullying is to educate their students. Students must know what all the different forms are and how they can be a terrible thing in other people’s lives.
What should schools do to respond to cyberbullying?
Schools should inform students and make sure they don’t do it. If a school finds out that a student is cyberbullying, they should have consequences. They should also inform their parents to make sure they know what is going on and to make sure they know that cyberbullying is taken very seriously.
How is cyberbullying and school climate related?
If the school has a positive climate there is usually higher attendants and a higher desire to learn.
What can youth do?
The youth should develop a relationship with an adult that they can trust and that they look up to. They should do this so they can talk to them on or offline that upset them or troubled them.
What can bystanders do?
People that witness cyberbullying usually don’t want to get involved because of the problems that it might cause for them. Bystanders can easily step in and try to take action, don’t just stand around.
What can law enforcement do?
Law enforcement officers can speak to students in classrooms about cyberbullying and being safe while using the internet. They can also speak to parents about their kids and how to help prevent them from being bullied. They can also inform them on the symptoms of a bullied kid.

Cool Text Name
1. I liked Flickr name better because the different letters were cool.

Voice Thread
Flash Videos
What I like about Flash Videos is that the pictures are rather strange and random, but neat at the same time.
Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
I really like this voice thread because it is younger children telling us all these facts about the Great Barrier Reef. The pictures are really spectacular!
Voice thread in general, I think is a really neat website that people can use to make slideshows about anything! To get information out and to just express their feeling towards things in life.

My Favorite Class
English Class
My favorite thing about school is English class. I like it because I am pretty good with grammar. I also like it because I enjoy writing stories and poems. Another reason why I like English class is because I like spelling and it is fun to learn new words and their meanings. I have always enjoyed English. I catch on to things really easily.
I like English class because I am good with grammar. I understand and talk with proper grammar. I like using big words, it makes me feel smart. It bothers me when my peers use improper grammar; I usually correct them. It bothers me so much because we have been learning how to use proper grammar since elementary school, and we are now 9th graders, we should all know how to talk correctly. Also, my teacher, Ms. Weaver, uses proper grammar and makes it easy to learn.
I also like English because I enjoy writing. I like writing stories and poems. I don’t have a very wide imagination, but I’m pretty good at writing stories from scratch. I love to write poems. Even though I’m not the greatest at it, I still enjoy it. Writing is a way for me to express my feelings. When I’m upset about something I don’t like to talk about it, I write it all down in a notebook. I can get more said and explain better in writing than verbally.
Another reason why I like English is because I love spelling and learning new words and their definitions. It is also neat to see how words were formed and where they came from. We are learning Latin Roots in English and it is really cool to see what the different roots mean. I have loved spelling and taking spelling tests ever since elementary school. I don’t know why, but I was just always able to memorize words really easily. My parents told me that I was talking and I learned my ABC’s at a very early age. That could be why spelling is easy for me.
These are all reasons why I enjoy English class most in school. I understand it the best out of all my classes. The teacher is very good at her job and I enjoy having her as my teacher. I hope I will still like English class as much in the years to come as I do now. I really don’t think I will lose interest in the class. Besides, I will use most if not all of the things I learn in English the rest of my life.
